The proliferation of sanctions measures and the emerging competing sanctions regimes have rendered sanctions one of the key compliance risks to investments and commercial activities. While we frequently hear about sanctions, most of us do not appreciate the complexity of sanctions measures and regulations until they find themselves engaging in deals which are potentially exposed to sanctions or, worse, until they are actually punished for violations.
